Frequently asked questions.

What makes you qualified to train my dog?

I have personally been training my own dogs for 20 years. I have been through some of the worst experiences with training and some of the best. I dealt with a Jack Russell with severe resource guarding issues and a pitbull with the sweetest demeanor who listened and learned quickly.

I have been working with animals for over 10 years and have worked in the shelter environment and the veterinary field. I went back to school to become a certified dog trainer through CATCH, a certified training academy for dog trainers. It is a 10 phase program where I worked hands-on with dogs from the first phase through the last. I was evaluated by a mentor trainer throughout the program and graduated with distinction in November of 2022. I am officially a CATCH Certified Dog Trainer (CCDT) and have continued working with my own and shelter dogs as I continue to grow my business and work with dogs of all walks of life. Feel free to ask me anything about my services or qualifications and I will be open and honest.

Where do you train dogs?

I offer private training lessons which can be done in your home, or really wherever our training takes us! Group classes are offered at Carolina Forest Veterinary Hospital during certain times of the week (see the Services page for more info).

What if I don’t have enough time to train my dog?

You will leave each session with all of the tools you need to continue training your dog on your own. Each private session varies from 1-1.5 hours depending on your availability and I am extremely flexible with fitting all clients into my schedule whenever it suits you and your family.

We also offer Day Training programs which offer a more hands-off approach for owners and have more flexible hours, sessions, and pricing!

Do you offer guarantees or refunds?

Kay’s K9s does not offer any type of refunds or guarantees. Dog training is solely reliant on the dog’s pace and performance and it would be unreasonable to guarantee any type of complete compliance by your pup or you as an owner. However, I do believe that working with me will help you create a better understanding of your dog and help you to achieve your personal goals with your pup!

Do I have to sign a contract?

Yes! Our contract is short and to the point, but is required to be signed before services are rendered for the protection of Kay’s K9s. If you would like to read over our contract, feel free to message us and we will be more than happy to send a copy over! Thank you!
